Let’s start with your story. You’ve done so many things from reporting to emceeing to being an influencer. How did football come into the picture for you? It all began years ago when I was working as a sports journalist. I covered a lot of local football and was amazed by how professional everything felt, from the warm-ups to the training facilities. Even though I wasn’t playing at the time, I think that was when the seed was planted. That was back in 2015. Then, in 2022, a friend invited me to join a friendly match. I still remember how unexpectedly fun it was. That one game changed everything. The moment I stepped onto the pitch, something clicked. I wasn’t just watching or reporting anymore; I was part of it. And from that day on, I fell completely in love with the game.
You started playing the sport later than most. What made you fall in love with football at that stage in your life? That first friendly match was such a turning point for me. Not only did I find football incredibly fun, but I also realized that my body could still keep up, which honestly surprised me. It made me feel that maybe age didn’t have to be a limitation. As I started training more, I began to appreciate just how much detail and effort go into the game. So many movements that seem simple, like a clean pass or a quick shoulder check, actually take endless repetition and discipline to get right. That’s what I love about football. There’s always something to work on, and that sense of constant progress really speaks to me. It’s the kind of challenge that keeps me motivated.
Can you take us back to your very first training session or match? What was going through your mind? In my first year of playing, there was a match where I scored two goals. I still remember how focused I was in that moment. I didn’t even let myself get too excited, I just kept thinking, “Stay calm, stay present.” But deep down, I had this quiet voice in my head saying, “Oh no... this feels amazing. I’m hooked.” That was the moment I knew I wanted to keep playing. No matter what.
You wear many hats — footballer, reporter, emcee, content creator. Do you feel like each of these roles connects with football in a different way? Definitely. Each role gives me a unique perspective on the sport. As a journalist, I had the chance to observe the game from the outside and tell its stories. As an emcee and content creator, I get to share that same passion and energy with audiences in a different way, often connecting with people who might not follow football otherwise. And now, as a player, I’m experiencing the game from the inside. I get to feel every sprint, every pass, every victory, and every defeat. Each role adds another layer to how I understand and appreciate football. I truly believe they all complement one another, and it feels like such a privilege to be involved in the game from so many different angles. As someone who also covers sports from the media side, does being a player now change how you see the game? Absolutely. Being on the field has completely changed the way I see athletes. When I was only reporting, I didn’t fully grasp what players carried behind the scenes—the mental and physical struggles, the pressure, the quiet battles they face every day. Now that I’m one of them, I understand how much often goes unsaid. I’ve dealt with injuries, tough losses, and moments of self-doubt. But I don’t share all of that publicly. It’s taught me to be more empathetic and kind, because you never really know what someone is going through, even when they seem fine on the surface. What has surprised you most about being part of a football team? Is there a moment on the pitch so far that felt extra special, maybe something small but unforgettable? I never expected football to be so technical and intricate. There are so many small things you have to train like shoulder checks, positioning, or how you read the game. It’s not just running and kicking a ball. Also, being part of a team is its own kind of magic. The support, the unspoken communication on the field, the shared wins and losses. It’s something I never experienced before. I was genuinely surprised by how deeply connected I’d feel to my teammates. Hong Kong’s football scene is evolving. Where do you see yourself fitting into that bigger picture? As Hong Kong’s football scene continues to grow, I see myself contributing by using my platform as an artist and influencer to shine a spotlight on women’s football. I want to break stereotypes, share authentic stories, and inspire more people to appreciate the passion, talent, and hard work behind the women’s game.
With a new season around the corner, can you share which club you’ll be playing for? We’ll be announcing it very soon, so stay tuned. I’m truly excited for what’s ahead. It feels like the start of something really special, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Lastly, what keeps you coming back to the game even on the tough days when it would be easier to focus on something else? It’s simple. I truly love football. No matter what kind of day I’m having, whether things are going well or I’m facing challenges, the moment I step onto the pitch, everything else fades away. I feel a deep, pure kind of joy that’s hard to put into words. Even if I’m tired or struggling, playing football brings out the best version of me. It is in those moments that I feel most alive, like something inside me is shining. That feeling is what keeps me coming back, time and time again.
