We're thrilled to have the chance to talk with you, Mia! What drew you to football, and how old were you when you first started playing?
I started playing around the age of 5 or 6, though I can't quite remember exactly when. What I do recall vividly is the excitement I felt whenever I saw my father or brother playing football. I guess that love for the game eventually rubbed off on me.
Who has inspired you the most in your football journey? Are there any players you look up to?
My family has been my greatest source of encouragement and inspiration. Beyond them, I also look up to the seniors who are pushing the boundaries and improving the women’s game. Growing up, Cristiano Ronaldo was my idol. I admire his mentality and work ethic; he never stops striving for greatness, no matter his age.
What’s been the most challenging part of your football journey so far?
One of the biggest challenges I face daily is maintaining consistency both on and off the field. Being a footballer demands a great deal of discipline, and there are times when I struggle to keep up. Additionally, playing against physically tougher opponents is another challenge for me. It highlights the need for me to become stronger and more resilient.
Congratulations on being named the Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner in the recent Under-15 Liga Puteri! How did it feel to receive those awards?
I'm extremely grateful and humbled to have received the awards. It's a powerful motivation for me to push even harder and a clear indication that I'm on the right path.
How did your teammates and coaches support you throughout the competition?
Throughout my career, I've benefited from a wide range of support and I have nothing but admiration for all the coaches and teammates who have guided me along the way. I'm especially grateful to my dad, who was my first coach, and to Coach Fairul from the NFDP, Coach Jeff and all coaches from I’m Junior Football Club, Coach Amira from NFDP Pahang, Coach Razman from Kelana, Coach Shaun and Aqilah from Velocity, and finally, Coach Khuzairy and Liana from my current team, Soccer Ace. Each of them has played a significant role in shaping the player I am today.
You're currently competing in the FAS Girls League with Soccer Ace. What goals have you set for yourself in this tournament?
I am committed to giving my absolute best to my team, Soccer Ace. I am determined to push my limits and see just how far I can contribute to our success in this league. I’ve vowed to give my all to everyone who supports me, both on and off the field.
That's incredible! Even at such a young age, what is your ultimate goal in football? What do you hope to achieve in your career as a footballer?
My ultimate goal is to represent my country on the international stage. I know I still have a long way to go to reach my full potential, but I believe that with hard work, determination, and the support of those around me, I can achieve this dream. Additionally, if given the opportunity, I would love to play abroad and gain experience in different footballing environments.
Aside from football, what do you enjoy doing in your free time, Mia?
I don’t usually do much off the field, but if I could choose one activity, it would be playing badminton with my siblings. I miss spending time with them and would love to reconnect through a fun, shared activity.
Do you find it challenging to balance your studies with football?
I believe that every footballer my age faces the challenge of balancing both football and studies. However, with the right mindset, managing both effectively is possible. Women's football is still developing here in Malaysia, so finding a balance is crucial rather than putting all your eggs in one basket.
What advice would you give to other young players who aspire to achieve what you have in football?
Keep making mistakes and never stop learning. As a footballer, discipline is essential, and maintaining a positive attitude during training is crucial. Always strive to improve and never give up.
One last question. Looking ahead, what are you most excited about in your football journey?
One of the things I always look forward to in my journey is meeting new people from diverse backgrounds. I would also love to travel to different places to play football with my team. In the distant future, I'm eager to see how far I can push myself and how much I can achieve as a footballer.
