Ainsyah Murad Discusses Her Career, Selangor FC & Ambitions for 2025

You’re known as Alin on the field, but how would you describe yourself off it? What’s something people might not know about you?
The first time I kicked a football was when I was 6 years old. At that time, my mother took me for a walk around the neighborhood, and we came across a football field where a football club called SOCCER STAR was holding a training session. My mother then asked if my sister and I would like to join the club just for fun to pass the time on the weekends. At that moment, I never imagined that this casual interest in football would end up changing a big part of my life.

How did you first fall in love with football, and who were the key figures or moments that really helped shape your journey?
I first fell in love with football during the 2014 World Cup final between Argentina and Germany. It was my sister who introduced me to the game, and from that moment, I was hooked. Watching Lionel Messi play was a turning point for me—his skill, vision, and composure on the ball truly inspired me. Key figures in my journey include my early coaches and teammates, who pushed me to improve and helped me develop a deeper understanding of the game.

We’ve seen you play in a variety of roles—on the flanks, as a striker, attacking midfielder, and even defensive midfielder. Out of all these positions, which one do you feel most at home in, and what makes that role special for you?
I feel most comfortable and confident playing in the defensive midfield position. What makes it special for me is the sense of calmness when holding the ball, thinking maturely, making smart decisions, and reacting quickly under pressure. This role is also crucial for disrupting the opponent’s attack from the middle of the field and regaining possession, which adds a layer of responsibility and importance that I truly enjoy.

Every player has their strengths and areas they’re working to improve. What would you say is your strongest attribute on the field, and what’s one part of your game you’re focusing on developing right now?
My strongest attribute on the field is my ability to read the game and make quick, effective decisions under pressure. I excel at staying composed and distributing the ball to create opportunities for my team. However, I am currently focusing on improving my stamina and physical strength to maintain a high level of performance throughout the entire match. Additionally, I’m working on refining my shooting accuracy to make a greater impact in attacking situations.

You finished the season on a high with Selangor FC—what’s it been like being part of such a prestigious club? How does it feel to represent Selangor and be part of a team with such a rich footballing legacy?
Finishing the season on a high with Selangor FC has been an incredible experience. Being part of such a prestigious club with a rich history and legacy is both a privilege and a responsibility. Representing Selangor fills me with immense pride, knowing that I am contributing to a team that has inspired countless fans and players over the years. The unwavering support from the management, coaches, teammates, and fans has been truly amazing, driving me to give my all in every match and uphold the club’s values and reputation. Playing for Selangor is more than just competing; it’s about being part of something greater and carrying forward a legacy that will inspire future generations.

Football is all about teamwork, but we know there’s always that one teammate you click with. Is there anyone in the squad you’re especially close to, and how does that bond help you on the pitch?
It’s Ad. We have a great understanding both on and off the pitch, which makes it easier to anticipate each other’s movements during the game. Our bond builds trust and communication, so even under pressure, we can rely on each other to make the right decisions. It’s not just about skills—it’s the chemistry we share that adds an extra layer of confidence to the way we play. Having someone like that on the team truly makes a difference.

Are there any footballers—either locally or internationally—that you look up to or have drawn inspiration from? What is it about their game that resonates with you?
Several footballers inspire me in different ways. Internationally, Lionel Messi is someone I deeply admire for his vision, creativity, and ability to remain calm under pressure—qualities I strive to emulate. What stands out most is his humility and work ethic, even as one of the greatest players in the world. Locally, I look up to players who have made significant contributions to Malaysian football. Their dedication and perseverance in elevating the sport in our country are truly inspiring. They remind me of the importance of hard work, discipline, and staying grounded while pursuing my dreams.

Looking ahead to 2025, what are some of the key goals or dreams you’ve set for yourself, both on and off the pitch?
As a team captain, my primary goal is to give my all and lead my team to success. InshaAllah, if it’s meant to be, I hope to see us achieve championship glory this year. On a personal level, I’m committed to working even harder to improve my skills, fitness, and overall contribution to the team. Off the pitch, I’m focusing on personal growth, maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and finding ways to give back to the community. Dreams are achieved through hard work, and I’m determined to make 2025 a year of progress, growth, and fulfillment.

As you look back on your journey so far, what message would you like to share with your coaches, teammates, family, and friends who have supported you along the way?
As I reflect on my journey so far, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my coaches, teammates, family, and friends who have supported me every step of the way. To my coaches, thank you for your guidance, patience, and for pushing me to reach my full potential. To my teammates, I cherish the bonds we’ve built and the lessons we’ve learned together, both on and off the field. To my family and friends, your unwavering encouragement and belief in me have been my greatest source of strength. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you. Your support has fueled my passion and determination to keep striving for excellence. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.
